The Truth About Breastfeeding

Okay okay, this is my truth about breastfeeding but for some reason I feel like nobody actually talks much about this part of motherhood. Maybe because it’s different for everyone but I want to start with this, breastfeeding is hard. Let me follow that up with, breastfeeding is rewarding and it gets easier.

Here’s the thing, the real truth about breastfeeding is that at first it hurts (your nipples basically have to build up a tolerance for it), baby may not latch on right away but you have to keep trying, you will feel frustrated (I may have cried while breastfeeding once or twice), and it’s a team effort between you and baby.

All that to say, it’s totally worth it. I’ve always wanted to breastfeed my babies, I just think it’s better for mama and baby but I know everyone has a different opinion and both ways are 100% great, this was just my preference! Also, did you know breastfeeding is mother nature’s natural way to contract the uterus (fun fact).

Back to breastfeeding baby, once you get it down together you’ll see why breastfeeding is actually easier than formula. I mean think about it, whip out a boob at 3am or go to the kitchen to pour in powder, heat up water, put it in a bottle, THEN feed baby? Man, that sounds like a hassle. And yeah, if you have the Baby Brezza you’ll have an easier time but it’s still just not as convenient. Not for me at least. I’d rather sit in bed, feed, pop her in the bassinet and keep the night moving along.

I get it though, not everyone can breastfeed. Some mamas have to go right back to work. Others just aren’t able to produce, this was my biggest fear and why my tears came pouring those couple of times. So I get it and i’m not saying either way is the better way.

All I’m saying is, the truth about breastfeeding is that it’s hard but worth it and you just have to keep trying and show some patience. Also, talk to other mamas who have been through the journey, that was my saving grace when all I wanted was to give up and pop a bottle in her mouth! Just know you’re not alone in this and it’s okay to get a bit frustrated from time to time but it does get easier mama.

I’m curious, what’s your breastfeeding experience?
