Road trippin’ isn’t only about getting to your destination, it’s about what you can do on the way too! There are so many stops on the drive between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, or California really, so here’s how to do it.

kick like you mean it!

kick like you mean it!

+BTW. This is done from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, headed the opposite way? Just start from the bottom and work up.

1 - Seven Magic Mountains

This is right outside of Vegas, it can be a 10-15 minute stop and it’s actually really interesting to see. Photo tip? Move around, don’t smile and pose. With this type of background you won’t be the focus.

2 - Alien Fresh Jerky

The aliens have landed… and they’re making jerky in Baker, CA? Yupp, that’s right. This is the place to see the World’s Largest Thermometer, get a fresh bag of jerky, take a photo with a space creature and soon you’ll also be able to sleep at the UFO Hotel.

3 - The Monastery?

When you get off of the exit for the waterpark you’ll see a sign for a monastery then you’ll see a beat up building with a red cross on it, that’s your stop. Stop here for the picture and make a memory. This building isn't the monastery but I thought it was and who knows the difference anyway?

4 - Lake Dolores Waterpark

MY FAVORITE. I think I want to stop here every time, really. It’s abandoned and technically you’re trespassing so this is not me encouraging you to go but also, it’s a can’t miss spot. This has become a place for people to express themselves. The entire park is covered in artwork, thoughtful quotes, sentimental messages and images with significance (hey not everything can be serious… see below). The best part is that people respect the history enough to not cover the leftover pieces like the actual waterpark sign. Respect for each other makes for a peaceful community. We didn’t know we could paint here but next time I will definitely have a spray can with me!

5 - Yermo

Drive through Yermo (you have to anyway for the next stop) so enjoy this small town. You’ll see their fire engine that is much smaller than any you’ve probably seen before, some thrift stores, a market and a really neat school building too.

6 - Peggy Sue’s 50s Diner

Whether you’re hungry or not this is a fun stop! You can find original Coca Cola trinkets, Thrifty ice cream and see some old school poodle skirts… oh yeah I almost bought one. We didn’t eat here, it was just too early for diner food, but we heard it’s delicious. Must do: go into the bathroom for something that’ll make look twice. Before you get back on the road, visit her diner-saur park, you’ll even see King Kong out there.

7 - Bottle Tree Ranch

This one is fun for the destination and the drive, once you leave bottle tree ranch you’ll see a chunk of shops and signs that say “Route 66”, yeah that’s really where Route 66 is, stop and take a photo! You can spend as long or as little time as you want here, there is so much to see and it’s  unique place with knick knacks from around the world. It’s really like an antique shop turned into an art piece I suppose.

That’s it! From here you’re on your way to your final stop, enjoy your vacay!
